'Nashville' preview: Drama in boy band land

Is it already bye-bye-bye for the members of Nashville‘s newest boy band? Looking to escape their personal problems through song, Gunnar Scott, Will Lexington, and Avery Barkley recently joined forces to create the town’s hottest power trio. But some guys just aren’t able to check their drama at the door.

To be fair, both Gunnar and Will are nursing broken hearts after romances that have gone kaput, leading them to act in wildly different ways. While Will tries to find an escape hatch through Justin Timberlake-like showmanship, Gunnar prefers to be the Emo One of their Fab Three. That frequently leaves poor Avery to play peacemaker, a role he finally rejects in this exclusive clip from this week’s episode.

At first, Juliette’s eternally patient partner tries to maintain his role as Switzerland in the volatile Gunnar/Will axis of snippiness. But then Avery shows that even he can hit “mad as hell and not going to take it anymore” levels, and lays into his bickering bandmates. “The truth is you could both use a little bit of each other right now,” he argues, pointing out that Gunnar is “too depressing” while Will is “too Rico Suave” before reaching for a sweet candy bar analogy to drive his point home: “You need a little of his chocolate, and you need a little of his peanut butter.” Clearly, Reese’s Pieces needs to be the main sponsor of their tour.

Nashville airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on CMT.
