NASA thinks Mars formation looks like Beaker the Muppet — and it totally does

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… Beaker the Muppet on Mars?

A formation on the south pole region of the Red Planet captured by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter looks eerily familiar to The Muppets character. The University of Arizona’s High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment team enlisted by NASA caught the resemblance and couldn’t help but share the photo from its official Twitter account.

Beaker is the meep-muttering hapless assistant to Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.

The HiRISE team mentions pareidolia, which is the tendency to perceive a specific, meaningful image in a random visual pattern. So seeing Beaker through a Mars’s dust storm definitely counts. This isn’t the first time pareidolia has struck Mars. Remember when we all saw Jabba the Hutt?

Here’s hoping Beaker stays out of trouble up there. Meep meep!
