Miranda Lambert opens up about being stepmom to an infant: 'A whole new journey'

If Miranda Lambert had any hesitations about getting together and marrying Brendan McLoughlin at the same time that he welcomed a baby with another woman, she’s not letting on.

The country singer opened up about her new marriage to the NYPD officer — and becoming stepmom to his infant son — in a new interview with Extra. From her account, it’s been an easy transition and an exciting new twist in her life. She also said being a “crazy dog lady” helped prep her for step-motherhood.

“I was like, ‘Hey, I got the dogs, you got the kid, we can mix and mingle,’” Lambert, who has 13 dogs and is an animal activist, said she quipped to McLoughlin when they got together.

The Pistol Annies singer, 35, went on to say, “My stepson is amazing,” referring to the baby, Landon, who was born in November — three days after Lambert and McLoughlin met while she appearing on Good Morning America and the cop was working in the NYPD’s Midtown South Precinct.

“I’m loving that whole phase, and I’ve raised a million dogs, so I feel like I’ve got that part of my womanly/motherly thing is full,” she said. She described it as “a whole new journey. It’s great.”

Lambert didn’t even gripe about splitting their time between Nashville, her home base, and New York City, where McLoughlin continues to work.

“We have the best of both worlds," she gushed. "We spend time in New York, we get to see our adorable nugget, then we get to come back to the farm and have the quiet life. I’m enjoying the balance.”

She called McLoughlin, 27, “a great guy.”

Lambert and McLoughlin’s relationship has gotten a lot of attention. The public was first tipped off that she had a new man when the two were involved in an altercation at a Nashville restaurant and police were called to the scene. Lambert allegedly threw a salad at another patron.

Days later, she confirmed the romance by announcing she had secretly married the love of her life and shared wedding photos.

Almost immediately, details about McLoughlin’s personal life were dug up. The biggest being that he had welcomed a baby with an ex-girlfriend on Nov. 5 — days after meeting Lambert. But also that McLoughlin was engaged to another woman just prior to that — but it ended when his pregnant baby mama allegedly messaged his then-fiancée to tell her she was seven months along.

Lambert has had her own dramatic relationship history — beyond a bitter divorce from Blake Shelton. So it’s made the newlyweds popular tabloid fodder over the last few months.
