The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has managed a surprising haul of $9 million domestically in its opening three-day weekend, which is at the top end of most box office forecasts. Most expected it to make in the mid single digits.

The total beats director Guy Ritchie’s previous two films by a comfortable margin, as you can see below.

Guy Ritchie box office performance

  • 2024: The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare - $9 million

  • 2023: The Covenant - $6.4 million

  • 2023: Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre - $3.1 million

While failing to crack the top three, it’s not a bad return. The film is currently number four on the domestic chart, behind Civil War, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Abigail respectively.

With clips for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare showing Alan Ritchson shooting bad guys in cool ways, maybe it's not that surprising.

It’s also doing well on Rotten Tomatoes, with a decent 73% score from critics and an even better 94% score from audiences. In fact, that audience score is the highest of Cavill’s entire career, beating the 93% of Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Based on the 2014 nonfiction book Churchill's Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare chronicles the early adventures of the British SAS.
