With the whole world talking about Kate Middleton‘s Photoshop fail, it’s unsurprising that the British press is trying to divert our attention and defend the royal. With that said, however, their latest tactic included throwing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry under the bus by saying that their photos have also been edited in the past.

And while we wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case, after all everyone has things they may want to tweak here and there, the Sussexes’ photographer, Misan Harriman, denied all the rumors before they spiraled any further. On Instagram, Harriman took a stand against a recent article by the Daily Mail that claimed he edited the picture that announced Markle’s second pregnancy in 2021.

“Unfortunately, there’s been an article on the Daily Mail saying that I have admitted to doctoring the pregnancy announcement portrait I took of Harry and Meghan,” he said in a video. “Apparently, I was switching out trees and meadows and I admitted to this on an episode of a podcast called Private Passions. This is crazy.”

Harriman then went on to share a clip of himself talking about the shoot (which happened virtually) on the podcast in 2022. When asked, for example, if the Sussexes “weren’t actually under a willow tree,” Harriman politely swerved the “leading” question.

“Yeah, they were lost in their love, at home, in their garden, comfortable, celebrating new joy, new life, the fortitude of hoping for light in life after such a loss that they went through with a miscarriage,” the photographer responded. “So it really was a particularly joyous image to celebrate life itself.”

Knowing his words never suggested any type of editing, Harriman was clearly upset. “How that exchange could amount to me admitting to doctoring an image is insidious and really dangerous journalism,” he continued. “Any mention of meadows and willow trees came out of the person doing the interview, not my mouth. I did my best to ignore it and focus on what I wanted to talk about.”

“So to see an article saying, as fact, that I did what I did not do is extraordinary to me,” he continued. “And then to try and merge it with this current news cycle of what’s happening—it’s tragic to see.”

In fact, it doesn’t take much to see that bringing this example into the picture somehow minimizes Middleton’s alleged photo tampering. Luckily, Harriman wasn’t afraid to step up for himself and his work.

Also on Instagram, Harriman posted the original picture of Harry and Markle showing proof that nothing had changed. “The original Jpeg without the black and White grade, I expect a full apology and retraction from @dailymail @telegraph,” he wrote in the caption. “No trees or meadows were moved or swapped, this is the image straight out of camera. Also that is a Jacaranda Tree, not a willow tree.” Talk about a mic drop moment!
