On Monday, May 6, celebrities will be out in force in New York City for fashion’s biggest night of the year and it will be up to the celebrity co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala to host the star-studded event.
This year’s gala will celebrate the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring 2024 exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion so, accordingly, the theme of this year’s Met Gala is “The Garden of Time,” meaning we can expect to see plenty of archival pieces with nods to nature.

Who are the 2024 Met Gala co-chairs?
The co-chairs hosting the 2024 Met Gala are Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and Anna Wintour. The 2024 honorary co-chairs are TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and Jonathan Anderson, designer and creative director of Loewe.
In 2023, the co-chairs were screenwriter Michaela Coel, actress Penélope Cruz, tennis player Roger Federer, and singer Dua Lipa.
Zendaya is a certified fashion icon and has attended six Met Galas since her debut in 2015 when she stunned in a Fausto Puglisi Dress. The actress is having a very successful 2024 with back-to-back roles in two of the biggest box office hits of the year so far, Dune 2 and Challengers. The latter of these two hits is Luca Guadagnino’s film on which Zendaya’s fellow co-chair, Anderson, served as costume designer.
Bad Bunny made his Met Gala debut in 2022 and was easily one of the best dressed stars of the night in 2023 with his memorable backless Jacquemus suit. The Puerto Rican musician’s daring fashion has become as recognizable as his musical hits.
Chris Hemsworth has never attended the Met Gala which makes his 2024 co-chairing gig even more special. He is set to reprise his role as Thor in one of 2024’s most highly anticipated movies, Deadpool & Wolverine.
Jennifer Lopez is another Met Gala staple. She made her debut in 1999 and has attended 12 galas since. After releasing her ninth studio album, This Is Me… Now, earlier this year, Lopez will also be releasing a two new movies in 2024 titled Atlas and Unstoppable.
What do Met Gala co-chairs do?
Met Gala co-chairs play a key role in publicizing the event. The Met Gala is a fundraising event so having celebrity co-chairs helps attract sponsorships and donations for the museum’s Costume Institute. Co-chairs are selected due to their influence in various industries.
Met Gala co-chairs help curate the guest list, food, and decor. They also set the tone for the evening by being the first to hit the red carpet, meaning they are usually very much on theme. They are responsible for greeting guests as they arrive at the top of the famous Met steps. In the past, if there is a musician in the co-chair lineup, they usually perform for guests inside the secretive gala.
