Liam Hemsworth slams tabloid claiming he spoke out about Miley Cyrus split

Liam Hemsworth is speaking out for the first time about his separation from Miley Cyrus — and slamming a tabloid that claimed he gave them an interview about the split.

The Hunger Games actor shared a photo of an Australian sunset — he’s been back at home staying with his brother Chris Hemsworth as this saga plays out publicly — along with a statement confirming the split.

“Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward,” said the simple and to-the-point statement.

Then he went on to say that it “is a private matter” and he has “not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false.”

He ended the post with, “Peace and Love.”

The quotes he’s referring to are from the Daily Mail. The tabloid ran a story Monday saying “Downcast Liam Hemsworth” spoke with one of their reporters at a frozen yogurt shop in Byron Bay. It was claimed the actor said, “You don't understand what it's like. I don't want to talk about it, mate.”

Social media was emotional over Hemsworth’s apparently fake quotes.

Hemsworth has been getting positive responses to his real official comment on the split:

Cyrus was off on an Italian adventure with Brody Jenner’s ex Kaitlynn Carter when her rep confirmed she had separated from Hemsworth after just seven months of marriage.

It was PDA photos from that trip — of Cyrus, who identifies as queer, and Carter, a social media influencer, kissing and cuddling — that raised questions about the status of Cyrus’s and Hemsworth’s marriage in the first place. That led to a rep for Cyrus, who met Hemsworth on the set of The Last Song in 2008, to issue a statement saying, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

Cyrus has alluded to the split on her social media accounts, writing about new adventures and life being a “climb.” She also stopped wearing her wedding and engagement rings.
