Taylor Swift may or may not have been drinking while hanging out at an L.A. club with colleagues and friends on Saturday, but it doesn’t matter. “Drunk Taylor” is the internet’s new favorite meme — and she seems OK with it.
On Sunday, the singer used her Teen Choice Icon Award speech to urge fans to stand up for gender equality, but the night before she simply let loose. She threw a party for people involved in the "ME!" and "You Need To Calm Down" music videos to celebrated their 10 VMA nominations. According to the singer herself, “We had so much fun that ‘Drunk Taylor’ is trending on Twitter.” She then added, “CHEERS.”
At Beauty & Essex, her hit “You Need to Calm Down” came on and she started dancing, putting her hair in her face and pretending to do a shot in front of guests including Laverne Cox. The video led someone to comment that, “The drunk Taylor Swift is my favorite” and from there, memes were born.
