Amazon is turning Legally Blonde into a TV show. (What, like it’s hard?)

Prime Video is developing a series set in the world of Legally Blonde, TVLine has confirmed, with original star Reese Witherspoon on board as an executive producer. (Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.) No plot details have been released yet, but Gossip Girl veterans Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will write the series and also serve as EPs along with Witherspoon. A second TV spinoff is also being eyed, per Deadline, but that’s still in the preliminary stages.

The original Legally Blonde debuted in theaters in 2001, with Witherspoon starring as unlikely Harvard Law student Elle Woods. The supporting cast included Luke Wilson, Selma Blair and Jennifer Coolidge. It became a hit, earning more than $140 million at the box office and landing a number of Golden Globe nominations.

The success led to a number of sequels and offshoots, starting with 2003’s Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, also starring Witherspoon. It moved to Broadway in 2007 with Legally Blonde: The Musical, with Laura Bell Bundy as Elle; MTV aired a reality competition series the following year seeking the best musical theater actress to succeed Bundy in the role. A third Legally Blonde movie has been in the works for years, with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor slated to pen the script, but has yet to see the light of day.
