Comedian Kathy Griffin is doing what she can to find her estranged husband, Randy Bick.

Griffin filed for divorce from Bick after nearly four years of marriage in December 2023. However, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE in March 2024, the My Life on the D List star has been unable to serve Bick divorce papers as his whereabouts remain unknown.

The comedian even hired a private investigator to locate her estranged husband, though court documents said "this too has been unsuccessful."

Griffin and Bick first met in 2011 and dated for several years before getting married on New Year's Day in 2020. During their four-year marriage, Griffin often posted photos with Bick on social media. The marketing executive was also by Griffin's side during her lung cancer diagnosis in 2021.

Bick was raised in California and received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Arizona. In 2004, he earned his MBA from Azusa Pacific University.

He has had a long career in entertainment marketing and is currently the chief marketing officer and head of production at Inappropriate Laughter Inc., per his LinkedIn.

When the former couple first met at a food and wine festival in 2011, Griffin didn’t necessarily think Bick would become her husband because of their age gap. “Well you know I didn’t think it would last [because] he’s 18 years younger than I am,” she told PEOPLE in 2016.

“He’s very sweet and very mellow,” she added of her then-boyfriend. “He’s like a regular guy, you know, he’s like a real guy. He’s not like a Hollywood guy.”

In 2018, Griffin and Bick briefly parted ways after seven years together. The comedian announced the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “God help me, but I’m gonna be one of those people who announces a break up. After 7 years, Randy and I have decided to part ways. It’s not acrimonious and I will always adore him.”

However, they reunited less than a year later. Griffin posted a picture of herself and Bick alongside Daisy Fuentes and Richard Marx on March 31, 2019. Several commenters asked if this meant she and Bick had reconciled, and she confirmed that they were back together.

As the world rang in 2020, Griffin and Bick revealed that they were engaged — and they also got married the same night. Actress Lily Tomlin officiated the short ceremony in the early hours of Jan. 1, 2020.

“What was supposed to be a shallow, ‘toot it and boot it’ one-night stand has grown and flourished into something far more meaningful,” Tomlin said in a video of the ceremony Griffin shared to social media. “They stayed together. Then they couldn’t stay away from one another.”

Griffin wore a pearl-embroidered, short-sleeved gown by Diane Von Furstenberg, which was a sweet callback to their first date. She posted on X, “I asked Randy to pick out which ever one of my long dresses was his favorite for any reason.” He chose the one she’d worn on their first formal date in 2011.

A few days shy of their fourth wedding anniversary, Griffin filed for divorce from Bick on Dec. 28, 2023. In the official divorce documents, which were reviewed by PEOPLE, the comedian cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split. She also requested the court's ability to award spousal support to be terminated as well as "enforce premarital agreement dated 12/23/2019."

"Well...s--t. This sucks," Griffin wrote on Instagram reacting to the divorce news.

She hired a private investigator to locate Bick after she was unable to serve him divorce papers

Three months after filing for divorce, Griffin revealed in court documents obtained by PEOPLE that she has not been able to locate Bick to serve him divorce papers. According to Griffin, Bick has "not been in contact with her" or shared where he is "residing or staying."

The Suddenly Susan star also hired a private investigator to find her estranged husband, but the documents claimed those efforts have been "unsuccessful."

The brief continued, "[Griffin] will make further attempts to locate [Bick] and will now take steps to enter his default."
