“Outer Range,” TV’s craziest sci-fi Western, is finally coming back for Season 2. On Monday, on the two-year anniversary of the series premiere, Prime Video dropped a trailer for the new season, which arrives on May 16.
“Outer Range” stars Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, a Wyoming rancher who is having problems holding on to his land and his family. One day, he finds a mysterious hole on his property that might be some sort of portal through time. So now he has another, even bigger problem.

Emmy Experts Typing: Is 'The Crown' the only safe drama series nominee?
According to Amazon, Season 2 “propels its characters deeper into the void with profound and unforeseen circumstances that could shake the very foundations of time itself.” The trailer is packed with wild imagery, like Autumn (Imogen Poots) eating some black mineral dust and then her eyes turning the same color, and even wilder dialogue, like Royal Abbott musing about how it’s impossible to know that God created the world in six days, because how could you define a day before you knew what a day was? Time is weird in the hole! (Amazon also makes a point of mentioning that there are narrative payoffs in Season 2; Season 1 added mysteries on top of mysteries and put off resolving most of them.)
In addition to Brolin and Poots, the cast of “Outer Range” includes Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie, and Will Patton. The showrunner is Charles Murray (“Sons of Anarchy”), who takes over from creator Brian Watkins.
Brolin will make his directorial debut with Season 2’s penultimate episode.
All seven episodes of “Outer Range” Season 2 premiere Thursday, May 16 on Prime Video.
