Joey Graziadei Jokes It's a 'Red Flag' That Fiancée Kelsey Anderson Applied to 'The Bachelor'“ ”Herself

When 'The Bachelor' lead heard that the junior project manager submitted herself for the show as opposed to being recruited, he assumed, "You’re here for followers"

The Bachelor brought Joey Graziadei and Kelsey Anderson together, all because she applied to the show.

On Monday’s episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Anderson, 25, revealed that she submitted herself for consideration on the show versus being nominated or scouted by a producer.

“I came on just thinking, if anything it’d be a really cool life experience, but I was open to the process,” she told hosts Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt in a joint interview with her fiancé, 28. “And I mean, it worked out perfectly for me and I'm just happy where we are.”

Anderson shared that she applied “a couple months” after her last relationship and “didn’t think I was going to hear back.”

“I was making a joke when she first told me she applied herself," Graziadei recalled. "I was like, ‘That’s a red flag!’ I was like, 'I don’t know about this one anymore.'"

After Anderson explained her situation to Graziadei, he understood. But, he admitted, “When you first hear you applied yourself, like, oh so you’re here for followers. That’s where your head goes right away.”

Anderson also told Amabile, 37, and Pitt, 26, how it felt watching his season back.

“The first two episodes, I watched all of it, but then it went on, I would put in my headphones, I would scroll on my phone during other people’s one-on-ones or other intimate moments,” Anderson said. “I was just like, I don’t need to see this. Because this was, this is like not what it is now. So I just kind of would ignore a lot it and just focus on our moments. But there were parts where it was harder for me to watch.”

The junior project manager specified that she didn’t watch Fantasy Suites or hometowns.

“Like afterwards, you see like, social media going crazy about it all,” she continued. “I think, honestly, the hardest part for me was seeing everybody talk about it afterwards, not even watching it.”

During the second part of the interview, which dropped Tuesday, Graziadei admitted he thought his connection with Anderson was “hard to hide” from the other women — so much so that production made a comment to him about it.

“I feel like they knew,” Graziadei said. “I was pretty obvious on group dates. I got notes on my end that like, ‘Hey, let’s spread the love a little bit more from time to time.’”

When asked whether she considers Graziadei her type, Anderson played coy.

“My type really is like more so personality, like kind men that treat me with respect and are fun, I enjoy my time with,” she said. “And that’s Joey.”

Ultimately, Amabile and Pitt complimented Graziadei on a successful season and thought he came off as very well-liked, even by his exes.

“Jesse like whispered to me during the Tell All, he’s like, ‘I’ve never seen this before,’” Grazaidei said of host Jesse Palmer’s response at Women Tell All. “When we were getting to the end, he’s like, ‘You really got off easy, man.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on, just trying to get through this.’ "

Anderson and Graziadei told PEOPLE they plan to enjoy a long engagement and move to New York City together this summer.

“I've always wanted to live there and Joey is supporting me in that,” Anderson said. “We're young and I think now is the time to live in a tiny, cramped apartment together and experience it. Even if we hate it, at least we can say we did it.”

Graziadei recognized that New York City will be a big change from his previous life in Hawaii.

“But I've really come to love New York from the time I spent there,” the Bachelor said. “It does have a different feel. I've never lived in a big city. My family lives in Philly area and I have close friends [there], so the idea of being close to them finally is going to be great. I think it is the right time to do it, so we're excited.”
