Hillary Clinton stepped out in New York City on Wednesday night for the opening of “The Wiz.” The musical had its first performance at the Marquis Theatre in New York’s theater district.

For the occasion, Clinton fashioned a monochrome black look beneath a gold jacket, which shined beneath the flashing lights of cameras. The former United States Secretary of State paired the jacket with a complementary scarf. She continued her gold aesthetic with accessories, such as layered necklaces and stacked bracelets.

As for her makeup, Clinton kept it simple and classic, adding a pop of color with a red lip. The gold ensemble was the ideal look for the red carpet event. Other guests who arrived for the opening night of “The Wiz” posed for photos on the gold carpet, with “The Wiz” embossed in gold, bold letters, evocative of the iconic yellow brick road featured in the musical.

Clinton has experimented with gold hues as of late. The American political figure was among the bevy of guests who attended the White House state dinner for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko Kishida on April 10. For the event, Clinton fashioned a flowing purple and pink caftan. The fabric draped over the former first lady with ease, featuring billowing sleeves and an ornately patterned design.

Gold details were featured throughout the ensemble, blending the plum and pink hues together in seamless fashion. Much like her gold jacket for the opening night of “The Wiz,” Clinton’s caftan featured a sheen that made the look shine under a certain light. She previously fashioned another caftan style during a surprise appearance at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

“The Wiz,” which debuted in 1974, is the Tony Award-winning musical reimagining of “The Wizard of Oz.” A film adaptation was made in 1978 starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Wayne Brady stars as the titular character in the 2024 Broadway revival.
