Heartstopper: Olivia Colman Won’t Return for Season 3 Cast

Despite appearing briefly in Netflix’s coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama Heartstopper, Olivia Colman has revealed that she won’t return for the show’s third season.
Speaking to Forbes, Colman — who played Sarah Nelson, Nick and David’s mother, and who appeared in brief roles in both seasons — confirmed that her busy schedule had forced her to drop out of the show.
“I couldn’t do number three. I couldn’t fit it in. I feel awful about that,” Colman said, before praising the series. “I feel like I was part of one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever been part of.”
The third season, which started filming last year, is expected to focus on what happened after Truham Grammar High School’s trip to Europe. It is also anticipated to adapt the novel’s fourth volume, which features both Charlie and Nick attending college.
Who’s involved in Heartstopper?
Heartstopper is led by Kit Connor as Nick, Joe Locke as Charlie, Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, William Gao as Tao Xu, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson, and Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson, and Olivia Colman as Nick’s mother. Season 2 also introduces new cast members Leila Khan as Sahar Zahid, Jack Barton as Nick’s older brother David Nelson, Bradley Riches as James McEwan, Nima Taleghani as Mr. Farouk, Bel Priestley as Naomi, Ash Self as Felix, and Thibault de Montalembert as Nick’s father.
“Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him. Nick also has something important to say to Charlie,” reads the official synopsis for Season 3. “As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realize that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges. As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties, and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.”
Based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series of the same name, Heartstopper is written and created by Oseman with Euros Lyn serving as director. It is produced by See-Saw Films.
