Gwen Stefani Claps Back at the Divorce Rumors That Plagued Her Blake Shelton Marriage

Earlier this year, the internet rumors went into overdrive that Gwen Stefani’s marriage to Blake Shelton was in trouble. As it turns out, the gossip was nothing but false after the dynamic duo released their sweet duet together, “Purple Irises,” but the 54-year-old singer has something to say about the less-than-true tales that claim there is trouble in paradise.

“When you’re in love and have truly aligned values, nobody can get to us. You can say whatever you want to say about our relationship—I mean, a week ago we were getting divorced again or something,” she explained to Nylon. “It’s just lies. The truth is the truth, and we know what that is…” That doesn’t mean she always feels confident about where the relationship stands, but she feels like it’s self-created drama instead of any outside forces.

“I had been going through those times where you’re questioning: ‘Oh my gosh, am I just getting older? Am I cute?'” Stefani revealed. “In my own relationship, even though I know the truth of what’s happening today, you still create drama in your own mind about your insecurities and what might happen. I was in that phase of the relationship with Blake and getting paranoid.” She knows what’s real in her marriage with Shelton — and that’s their shared love.

“The truth is I am in love with my best friend,” she added. “And all this s**t I’m thinking of in my brain, that’s all it is — I’m overthinking.” Some of Stefani’s insecurities may stem from her first marriage to Gavin Rossdale, who had a reported three-year affair with their children’s nanny, Mindy Mann. She described their betrayal to Harper’s Bazaar as “the beginning of hell.” The pop star shared that she lived with “six, seven, eight months of torture” while “trying to figure out this big secret.”

Stefani’s second chance at love isn’t one-sided either, Shelton was hot off his Miranda Lambert divorce when sparks flew with his now-wife. “When you have a broken heart—at least, when I do—you got to get it out of your system,” he told Billboard in 2016. “You want people to sympathize with you. I was at rock bottom, in the middle of hell…Gwen saved my life. Who else on earth could understand going through a high-profile divorce from another musician?”

Shelton and Stefani were a game-set-match from the start.
