Fall River Symphony Orchestra spring pops concert

The Fall River Symphony Orchestra’s 99th season will feature a spring pops concert on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m., in the Margaret L. Jackson Performing Arts Center at Bristol Community College, 777 Elsbree St., Fall River.

The spring pops concert, “Rebirth,” will feature Stravinky’s “Firebird” suite.

Other works will be announced, so be sure to keep up with FRSO on Facebook.

Tickets are $25 for adults, and free for children and students.

See silent film with a cameo by Babe Ruth at Jane Pickens Theatre

You can see The Great Bambino himself in a special screening at the Jane Pickens Theatre, 49 Touro St., Newport.

There will be a screening of the Harold Lloyd silent comedy “Speedy,” featuring a cameo with baseball legend Babe Ruth, on Tuesday, April 30, at 6 p.m.

The 1928 film was shot on location in New York City, and this screening will feature live music by New Hampshire-based composer Jeff Rapsis, who specializes in creating music for silent films. He will improvise music for the score as the film is screened.

Admission is $17 per person.

A night of jazz at New Bedford Whaling Museum

On Friday, May 3, First Fridays continue at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill.

Jazz pianist and composer Nina Ott and her bandmates, Chris Lopes on bass and Bertram Lehmann on drums, will be performing at 6 p.m.

Known as the Zunzún Trio, they’ll be featuring a wide-ranging repertoire of modern jazz and Afro-Caribbean influenced music, with original pieces brought to music by Thelonious Monk and Bebo Valdés.

This is event is for guests age 21 and older. First Fridays feature entertainment, fine art and artifacts, cocktails, mocktails, and light bites.

Tickets are $10 for members, and $20 for non-members.

Free family fun: We HeART Fall River Festival bringing food trucks, art vendors, entertainment downtown

Photoshop and digital editing at the Marion Art Center

Local professional photographer Cathleen Broderick will be offering a one-day workshop at the Marion Art Center, 80 Pleasant St., on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Introduction to Photoshop: Unleash Your Creativity with Digital Editing” will be held in the MAC’s Anne Braitmayer Webb Theater.

This workshop is for budding photographers, graphic designers, or anyone who wants to learn some new digital skills. Learn the fundamentals of Photoshop, as well as essential techniques.

The cost is $75 for MAC members, and $90 for non-members.

You will need to bring a laptop with Photoshop installed. A link for a free seven-day trial can be found on the workshop registration page.

Bring lunch or snacks, as there will be breaks throughout the day.

Taunton Civic Chorus spring concert

Celebrating its 65th year, the Taunton Civic Chorus presents its spring concert, “Dreams,” on Sunday, May 5, at 4 p.m., at the McCarty Theater in the former Coyle & Cassidy High School, 2 Hamilton St., Taunton.

This concert will feature the music of Fleetwood Mac, The Mamas & The Papas, and ABBA, as well as music from “Les Miserables” and “The Greatest Showman.”

Music Director Chris Hoskins will also present his arrangement of “Mister Sandman.”
