Emma Stone — who was born Emily Jean “Emma” Stone — has now revealed that she actually prefers being called Emily.

In a chat with the Hollywood Reporter alongside Nathan Fielder for “The Curse,” Fielder brought up that he was going to address Stone as Emily throughout the rest of the interview as that’s her name, even though she goes by Emma professionally.

The interviewer asked Stone if anyone in the industry calls her Emily.

“When I get to know them, people that I work with do,” Stone said. “It’s just because my name was taken (by another actress in SAG). Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.’

"Nathan calls me Em, which is easier.”

Stone said that if a fan came up to her and called her Emily she wouldn’t correct them.

“That would be so nice,” Stone said. “I would like to be Emily.”

Why did Emma Stone change her name from Emily?

The reason 35-year-old Stone uses the stage name Emma is because the name Emily Stone was that of another actress who was a member of SAG-AFTRA before her.

During an interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in November 2018, Stone also mentioned that when she was younger she wanted to be called Emma because of her favorite Spice Girl Baby Spice, whose name is Emma Bunton.

It wasn’t necessarily because of her that Stone now goes by Emma, but in the second grade, she was excited to be called that because of the singer.

Is Emma Stone from Arizona?

Yes. Stone is a Valley native and one of the biggest celebrities to come out of Arizona.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1988, in Scottsdale and lived on the grounds of the Camelback Inn resort from age 12 to 15. Stone attended Sequoya Elementary School, Cocopah Middle School and Xavier College Preparatory — an all-girl Catholic high school in Phoenix. She dropped out of Xavier after one semester to pursue acting.

Before starring in movies and shows, Stone was in numerous productions at the Valley Youth Theatre in downtown Phoenix when she was a child. She performed in shows including “The Wind in the Willows” and “Alice in Wonderland.”

In January 2004, Stone moved with her mother to an apartment in Los Angeles to become an actress.

Stone is having a big year in 2024, winning a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy for "Poor Things" in January and a Best Actress Oscar for the same movie in March.

Although she doesn't live in Arizona anymore, Stone has been seen supporting the Phoenix Suns at NBA games.
