Dr. Dre recalled having three strokes after his 2021 brain aneurysm.

During an interview with James Corden on SiriusXM’s This Life of Mine, the iconic producer remembered “the worst pain [he] ever felt.” He revealed he suffered from three strokes over the course of two weeks. Dre stated that he was willing to sleep off the health scares, but his wife and kids demanded he seek medical attention.

“It definitely makes you appreciate being alive, that’s for sure. It’s something you can’t control, it just happens. During those two weeks, I had three strokes,” he told Corden. “I got up and went about my day, and I thought I could lay down and take a nap. My son and a female friend were like, ‘No, we need to take you to the hospital.’ Next thing you know, I’m blacking out, I’m in and out of consciousness and I end up in the ICU.

“I was there for two weeks. I’m hearing doctors come in [and saying] ‘You don’t know how lucky you are.’ I asked questions about what I could’ve done to prevent this, no one could give me an answer.”

Dre previously spoke about almost dying from the mentioned brain aneurysm in 2022. The West Coast entertainer explained his health condition to the Workout the Doubt podcast. Dr. Dre detailed that although COVID prevented folks from visiting him while in the hospital, doctors invited his family to say what they thought were their goodbyes to him.

“They weren’t allowing anybody to come up—meaning visitors or family because of COVID,” he opened up. “But they allowed my family to come in. I found out later they called them up so they could say their last goodbyes because they thought I was outta here. I didn’t know it was that serious. Nobody told me. I had no idea. That was crazy.”

“I never felt like I was in trouble,” Dre added. “I felt like, ‘OK, I’m just going through [a] procedure, and I’m ready to go home. I’m hungry.’ I didn’t eat for two weeks. That was a crazy experience.”

The acclaimed musician was hospitalized at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after suffering a brain aneurysm in January 2021. He was rushed to the hospital and immediately admitted into the ICU. Dre reassured his fans at the time that he was “resting comfortably” and thanked everyone for their well-wishes.

“Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes. “I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team,” the message reads. “I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!”
