Chris Pratt and son Jack had a Disney kind of weekend.

The star of the company’s blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy franchise — which is represented in an attraction at Disney’s California Adventure theme park in Anaheim — was the surprise celebrity guest Saturday at Disneyland’s annual Candlelight Processional and Ceremony. The event has been a tradition at the park since it opened in 1955. Though it’s limited to invited guests, the ceremony is held in Town Square, located at the end of Main Street, while the park is open, and people wait hours to catch a glimpse of the production from farther away.

The elaborate show features a live orchestra and a choir of several hundred people from local schools and churches performing holiday classics and the famous guest reading the Christmas story from the Bible.

Afterward, Pratt offered a few personal words about Jack, his 6-year-old son with ex-wife Anna Faris, before wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas.

“For me, being a parent has really changed my life, in so many ways,” he said. “One of those ways is to understand truly the love that a father can have for a child. And when I stare at this precious little creation of mine here, and I watch the ways in which he tries to please me, I just feel a love that is so pure and unending,” Pratt told the crowd. “The way we love our children, and the more we love our children, the more we will understand the capacity for our father in heaven to love us. Each and every one of us is a precious creation, and he just marvels in the ways in which we can try to please him. That should give us all a great deal of comfort. I know it does for me.”

On Sunday, Pratt was spotted with Jack, as well as girlfriend Katherine Schwarzenegger and some friends, at Disneyland. TMZ reported that dad and son were really into the nightly firework display, and the group visited attractions including Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story Midway Mania! and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Jack’s mom wasn’t there for this outing, but she and her significant other, cinematographer Michael Barrett, joined Pratt and Schwarzenegger in taking Jack trick-or-treating on Halloween.
