With celebrity relationships falling like dominoes it’s easy to assume that there’s no such thing as a lasting marriage in Hollywood but a skim through this list of the longest celebrity relationships may restore your faith in love. 

Stars like Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya, and supermodel Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber are in some of the longest marriages in the world of celebrities but, even beyond those lovebirds, this list is long and vast — and we’re rooting for every single one of them.

Not to be dramatic but the fall of a lengthy Hollywood marriage never gets easier on us regular folk. Remember the shock you felt when Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness ended their marriage after 27 years or when Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner called it quits after 19 years? Yes, us too!

So, when a beloved Hollywood couple does stand the test of time, we’re all the more grateful — and you might be surprised just how many celebrity couples have defied the odds and made it work. In fact, taking a look at this list, we’re convinced more than ever that some star couples are meant to be.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, David and Victoria Beckham, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall, and Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have all been married for 20+ years, and we’d be lying if we said we didn’t look to them for relationship guidance. And while they all say similar things — open communication, patience, effort — it seems like there’s really one key factor. Joanna & Chip Gaines

Fixer Upper stars Joanna and Chip Gaines are, as anyone watching their show can tell, true #couplegoals. The two, who tied the knot in May 2003, are getting ready to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. “Match made in heaven is not the term you would use to describe us,” Joanna told People about their relationship. “But when we mixed our personalities together, it created a spark.”

Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell

After 40 years together, there’s not a judge in the world that would argue Goldie and Kurt aren’t at least common-law married. They share a son, Wyatt. Goldie’s kids from a previous relationship, Kate and Oliver Hudson, call him dad too.

Most recently, Goldie wished Kurt a happy 72nd with a sweet photo of the two on Instagram. “Happy birthday to the wacky man in my life! I love you baby ❤️,” she wrote in the caption. President Jimmy Carter & Rosalynn Carter

On July 7, 1946, President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn said “I do,” kicking off the longest presidential marriage in history.

In 2015, he gave this advice to CNN’s Jake Tapper on how to build a lasting marriage: “First of all, it’s best to choose the right woman, which I did. And secondly, we give each other space to do our own things…We try to be reconciled before we go to sleep at night, and try to find everything we can think of that we like to do together. So we have a lot of good times.”

Jeff Bridges & Susan Bridges

The Drag Race host says that he only sees his husband every three weeks and they maintain an open marriage.

“I wouldn’t want to put restraints on the person I love the most on this planet,” he told Vanity Fair in 2019, per The Things. “Listen, if you get something that you cannot resist and that is gonna make you happy, go for it. Because the truth is, I know in my heart of hearts like I’ve ever known anything before, that man loves me more than anything else in this world.”

Brooke Shields & Chris Henchy

Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy had a surprise wedding on April 4, 2001, after being engaged for eight months. Friends and family thought they were going to a fancy dinner at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel but arrived to find Shields in a Vera Wang wedding dress and a ferry waiting to take them to Catalina Island for the nuptials.

Shields and Henchy have two daughters: Rowan Francis and Grier Hammond.

Steven Spielberg & Kate Capshaw

Singer Patty Smyth and tennis great John McEnroe met at a Christmas party in 1993, according to People, and eight months later went on their first date. “And the rest is history,” says Smyth, who later welcomed daughters, Anna, born 1995, and Ava, born in 2000, with McEnroe.

Smyth also has one daughter Ruby, 34, whom she shares with ex-husband Richard Hell — and McEnroe shares sons Kevin, 34, Sean, 33, and daughter Emily, 29 with ex-wife Tatum O’Neal.

Ted Danson & Mary Steenburgen

Ted Danson & Mary Steenburgen first met on the set of Pontiac Moon in 1993 and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on October 8, 2021. “Happy 25th Anniversary! This was SUPPOSED to be a sweet loving anniversary photo but you have a big piece of salad in your teeth. So there it is,” the 67-year-old actress wrote beneath an adorable selfie of her and Danson.

“Thank you for making me laugh today and every single one of the last 9,125 days. You are the goofiest, wisest, kindest, dreamboat in the world. True, that is a big ass piece of salad but even that doesn’t mar your legendary beauty. I can’t believe how lucky I am. Happy Anniversary, Ted.”

Sting & Trudie Styler

Sting and Trudie got married on August 20, 2002. They point to tantric sex as the key to their long-lasting marriage.
