Britney Spears slams string of documentaries about her: ‘So hypocritical’

Britney Spears is speaking about the "hypocritical" documentaries about her — and getting some other things off her chest.

"Geez!!!!" began the singer's Instagram post on Monday. "2021 is definitely way better than 2020 but I never knew it was gonna be like THIS !!!! So many documentaries about me this year with other people's takes on my life," she continued, referring to The New York Times' Framing Britney Spears, the upcoming BBC film The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship and a NetFlix doc from filmmaker Erin Lee Carr. "What can I say … I’m deeply flattered!!!!"

But not really, apparently.

"These documentaries are so hypocritical," she continued. "They criticize the media" — for mistreating Spears in the lead-up to her back-too-back hospitalizations followed by her 2008 conservatorship being put in place — "and then do the same thing????? Damn."

Spears, who previously said she didn't watch all of Framing Britney Spears (which led to ex Justin Timberlake's public apology) but that what she did see left her in tears, said she chooses to focus on the good.

"I don’t know y’all but I’m thrilled to remind you all that although I've had some pretty tough times in my life," the mom of two wrote, "I've had waaaayyyy more amazing times in my life."

She added, "Unfortunately my friends … I think the world is more interested in the negative !!!! I mean … isn't this supposed to be a business and society about THE FUTURE ???? Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago ???? I mean DAMN."

Spears, who is dating model/actor Sam Asghari, also said she doesn't speak to her former makeup artist Billy Brasfield, so she's "honestly very confused" about recent comments he made about her. Brasfield gave an interview last month saying he's in touch with Spears and she told him she has no control over her Instagram posts.

"This is my Instagram!!!!" she insisted. (To be fair, Brasfield isn't the only one who thinks someone else is controlling her account. Many of the commenters — including on this post — do as well.)

She added a message to an unnamed "paparazzi guy," writing, "I didn’t want you and your crew following me around!!!!"

The post included a video of her dancing, still one of her favorite things despite being on an indefinite work hiatus, and she said she's looking ahead — to summer trips she has planned and to dancing in different studios. She also talked about how her home makes her happy — and is magazine worthy. (Presumably any magazine would feature it but access to the star is difficult due to her conservatorship.)

"I hope you're all living your best lives and shit or as [Paris Hilton] would say SLIVING!!!," she wrote, adding, "I know I am!!!!"

For now, Spears's only communications are her cryptic and sometimes confusing Instagram posts. However, on June 23 she will address the court in her conservatorship case. It's the first time she'll be speaking since calling to have her father Jamie Spears ousted as co-conservator of her estate last year. The #FreeBritney supporters look forward to seeing what she says in her own unfiltered words.
