May 24—The Brazil Concert Band will open its 2024 season at 8 p.m. June 2 in Forest Park, rain or shine.

The band will observe D-Day — June 6, 1944 — with a musical tribute to American veterans and allies who launched the World War II invasion of western Europe in Normandy, France.

A variety of music will be presented including "Armed Forces Salute" arranged by Bob Lowden, "The Homefront: Musical Memories From World War II" arranged by James Christensen and "Glenn Miller In Concert" arranged by Wayne Scott.

Saluting American troops, the BCB will perform "The Man Behind the Gun," "The Glory of the Yankee Navy," "Hail to the Spirit of Liberty" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever" all by Lt. Commander John Philip Sousa.

The band will play "Colonel Bogey" by Kenneth J. Alford, "French National Defile" by Andre Turlet and "March of the Belgian Parachutists" by Pieter Leemans and edited by Col. John R. Bourgeois.

The Sousa arrangement of "The Star-Spangled Banner" sung by Jay Hendrix will close the program.

The Park Stand will be run by the St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry serving Nancy and Wayne's sloppy joe sandwiches.

The BCB performs every Sunday evening in June, July and August.
