Andrew Dice Clay slams New York Times profile of him: 'Talk about Fake News'

Andrew Dice Clay was not thrilled to read a recent New York Times profile titled “Does Society Need Andrew Dice Clay?,” writing Sunday on Instagram that the article was “Fake News.” The 61-year-old comedian explained that he rarely gives interviews these days, but he thought the Times would be “truthful and on point.”

Clay specifically took issue with the story, which was published on Saturday, describing “three not-quite-sold-out nights” of his show at the Laugh Factory in Las Vegas on New Year’s weekend. He wanted to know why the journalist didn’t explain that the last weekend of the year is one of “the Worst Weekend’s To Perform In Vegas,” as he put it. He was also mad that the story started off with a joke he performed about disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein, “making it sound like I believe in Rape,” he wrote on Instagram.

Saying he didn’t remember the journalist’s name, he said the only thing “This Lady” got right was that he doesn’t care about political correctness. He said that he performs to reflect “what Society does to Eachother in a Comedic way.”

He ended the caption writing, “Tell ya Though … I look Stunning in Pictures.”

Despite utilizing one of President Trump’s favorite phrases in an attempt to discredit the journalist, Clay himself has criticized Trump in the past. In 2017, he said on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that Trump had stolen his misogynistic act to become president.

“The bottom line is, what I do is an act,” Clay said at the time. “When you’re the president of these United States … we need to stay united. And somebody has to own up.”

The comedian’s Instagram posts quickly moved on from the Times profile to focus on the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which took place Sunday night. A Star Is Born, in which Clay plays Ally’s father, didn’t take home any prizes.
