Ah, the glossy lid. We’ve see it on the runways, on the red carpet, and filling the pages of our favorite magazines, but can it be wearable in real life without getting messy? The answer is yes. Getting a glossy, dewy look is super easy to master as long as you are working with the right products.

For high shine at night, Yahoo Beauty editor in chief Bobbi Brown recommends using a clear lip gloss, focusing the application on the lower lid and working your way up towards the brow bone. “Keep the rest of the face relatively simple,” says Brown, who recommends focusing on evening out the skin tone with foundation and using a warm blush. Waterproof mascara and liner is also key to avoid any smudging or running over the course of the night. On Flaviana, Brown used Bobbi Brown Crystal Lip Gloss ($22) on lids and on lips.

If you want to make the look work for day, makeup artist Diane Kendal suggests using a lip balm. “Just use lip balm for a glossy look,” says Kendal. “It will stay there and won’t have a tacky feel on the lid.” Grab your favorite balm and give it a go, or try a hydrating multi-purpose cream like Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant ($21) that will give you the shine plus moisturizing benefits.
