Get Glossy Lids Without the Stickiness

Each day of New York Fashion Week the Yahoo Beauty editors will be sharing one life-changing beauty tip from the makeup artists, hair stylists, nail artists, and models we meet backstage.

With nude makeup dominating the runways again this season, one way makeup artists are having fun is by playing with texture and contrasting matte skin with glossy eyelids. Makeup expert Diane Kendal is a fan of the shiny lid look, trying it at two different shows this season.

Backstage at Carolina Herrera, models were made up to look like they were emerging from water. Kendal applied MAC Clear Lipglass ($15) over the eye lid and up to the brow to add shine and dimension. At Tory Burch, she applied and smudged off a Jolie Laide, a gorgeous brown shade from the Tory Burch Pas du Tout Eye Shadow Palette ($60) and then added Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour Cream on top to give it a nice sheen.

But how can you achieve this look at home without it feeling too sticky or buying more products? “Just use lip balm for a glossy look,” says Kendal. “It will stay there and won’t have a tacky feel on the lid.” Makeup artist Yadim is clearly aware of this tip, too, applying clear Maybelline Babylips lip balm ($4) to eyelids backstage at DKNY. When you’re ready to try this tip just reach into your bag, grab a tube of lip balm and swipe. Easy glamour is literally right at your fingertips.
