NARS Collaborates with Photographer Steven Klein
Luxury cosmetics brand, NARS, has just named their newest collaborator: legendary fashion photographer Steven Klein. Debuting in November 2015, the NARS Steven Klein Collection will be made up of 23 limited-edition items. They remain top-secret for now, but the brand confirms all products will be new shades, formulas, and packaging—just in time for the holidays.
"I am honored to be asked by François to collaborate on this NARS project with him, based on the previous artists he had worked with—Andy Warhol and Guy Bourdin," says Klein. "I have always had the highest regard for François’ work. He was the pioneer of moving from one of the greatest makeup artists to creating great makeup. There are few hands that could do what François has done. He has impeccable taste and stands strong by his work. His colors and his eye for imagery is unique and of the highest caliber.”
Klein is known for his edgy, often controversial, high-fashion shoots that have appeared in Vogue Italia, Interview, and V Magazine and his collaborations with Madonna and Lady Gaga. This will be his first cosmetics collaboration.

The brand has previously collaborated with designer Phillip Lim, and has nother in the works with designer Christopher Kane (due to arrive in May). While it’s easier to guess what a designer may incorporate into a makeup line, a fashion photographer leaves perhaps even more room for interpretation and creativity. “Steven is one of the most disruptive, fearless photographers of his time,” says François Nars, the brands founder and creative director. “I love his work– his ability to strip down and expose his subjects, to create shocking visual narratives that are never what they seem.” We’ve already put it at the top of our holiday wish list.
