Runway makeup is often very bold and intense, even for an extravagant night out. But John Galliano showed a makeup look that’s subtle enough for beauty minimalists and so flattering that it can’t be overlooked.

Makeup artists backstage used a wash of warm brown shimmer shadow across the lids and brow bones, bridging the brow into the hairline. The swipe of color, MAC Amber Lights, followed the natural line of the cheekbone and resulted in a contouring and lifting effect. A pop of gold on the lids using MAC Goldmine brightened the face and added dimension.

The look was completed with bold brows using MAC Veluxe Brow Liner and sheer skin applied with the brand’s new product, Next to Nothing, which is sheerer than its cult Face and Body Foundation.

The other half of the models had bare skin and eyes, which lead makeup artist Christell Cocquet says demonstrated individuality.

Hair was haphazardly slicked back into oiled finger waves, completing the feminine and elegant look.
