Kate Middleton’s Makeup Artist Launches Skincare Line at Anthropologie

Duchess Kate fans are an obsessive bunch: they want to know what clothes she wears (Jenny Packham and LK Bennett), who cuts her hair (Richard Ward), and where she vacations (Mustique). To that list, they can now add the ultimate in Kate Goals: how to get her skin’s rosy glow.

Kate’s former makeup artist, Arabella Preston—who taught the Duchess to do her own makeup for the royal wedding—has just debuted a skincare line, Votary, at Anthropologie. Launched in 2015 in the UK, where it already enjoys cult status, Votary is entirely based on oils, created after Preston noticed the relaxed “shoulder drop” effect on her clients when she’d massage oils into their skin before makeup application.

“I found that massaging a few drops of natural oil into a model’s face before starting her make-up not only left the skin glowing and invigorated, but had the added benefit of relaxing and calming my client,” explains Preston. “I decided to set up Votary when I realized I had only used oils to remove my make-up and to moisturize for nearly two years, and my skin had never been happier or healthier.”

Votary consists of six products, including a Cleansing Oil, with rose, geranium and apricot, a Toning Serum, with lemon and neroli, and three different Face Oils—one with jasmine and calendula, another with neroli and myrrh, and a third with rose maroc and sandalwood.

“I am on a one-woman mission to educate people that ‘dry and tight’ is not how your skin should feel after cleansing,” says Preston. “Our Votary Cleansing Oil is my desert island product.

Meanwhile, each Face Oil addresses a set of issues. The Jasmine and Calendula is a light blend designed to be applied in the morning before makeup application, while Rose Maroc and Sandalwood is especially rich, helping to plump skin full of hydration and reduce dullness overnight. If you can only pick one, try the balancing Neroli and Myrrh, which Preston describes as “my go-to face oil. I take it everywhere, and it solves any problem.”

Preston reveals that Votary has “a number of exciting new launches planned this year,” teasing that Votary will debut news on their Instagram account @VotaryLondon.
