Celebrity hairstylist Orlando Pita, who regularly works with A-list actresses like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet, worked with Phyto to concoct a simple off-center part ponytail with loop for the the Derek Lam Fall 2016 show, but he doesn’t want to talk about that. “That’s just for the long-haired girls that are boring and don’t want to cut their hair and are listening to their agents and they’re ruining their careers,” he told Yahoo Beauty backstage. “The girls who are new and are starting to look different are finally getting noticed. Enough of this boring long hair sameness!”

It’s a misconception that models need long hair to book lucrative hair campaigns. “I don’t see these girls [with long hair] in hair campaigns because hair girls in hair campaigns are not girls that people know,” Pita explained, adding that paying Gisele to sell your hair product brand isn’t worth the price. You see the back of the hair. It’s quick. They don’t want to pay for a face.”

Turns out, Pita’s been asking the models making the fashion week circuit where they got their haircuts from — and most of them are doing it on their own. “And that’s how I learned to do hair,” he added. “I cut my own hair because nobody knew how to cut this kind of [curly] hair. And look what I became from it!” A curly-haired boy with a history of bad haircuts slowly become the go-to stylist for Hollywood’s most demanding of celebrities. He even launched his own hair product line.
