Valentine’s Day is here again, and whether you have a hot date or you’re gearing up for a fun-filled ladies’ night with your BFFs, it’s always an enticing idea to add festive flair to your makeup routine. One look that celebrities have been swooning over, but most people fear to try, is the pink eye makeup trend.

For the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Sophia Bush wore a hot pink wash of color on her eyelids. Lea Michele ruled the red carpet at the Grammy Awards with sweeps of soft pink eyeshadow.

For those of you who are still a bit leery that you will give off sickening pink eye vibes, Yahoo Beauty is here to steer you in the right direction. We challenged five editors with different skin tones and eye shapes to give the pink eye trend a try. The results were pretty fascinating! Scroll ahead to see how it all played out.

Brittaney Trent, Style & Beauty Producer

Have you ever tried pink eye makeup before? If so, how did you like it?
I’ve never tried pink eye makeup or any bright color eyeshadow before this shoot. I usually stick to neutrals or earth tones, but I actually really liked this pink eye makeup a lot.

What were your initial thoughts about wearing pink eye makeup?
I honestly never thought about wearing pink eye makeup before. I’m not really adventurous when it comes to makeup. I usually stick to what I know looks good on me, and I rarely try new things. But I’m working on changing that!

After your eye makeup was applied and you looked in the mirror, what were your thoughts?
“Wow, who is that?!” I thought I looked really good, and I was surprised [about] how well the pink eye makeup matched my skin tone. I was definitely ready to take a picture.

Did you keep your makeup on for the rest of the day? If so, were there any reactions from co-workers or friends to your look?
Of course! I kept it on until I went home. All of my co-workers said I definitely needed to go out and be seen with that makeup on. But unfortunately, I disappointed them because I frequently live that grandma life.

Would you try pink eye makeup again?
Yes, I would definitely try pink makeup again, and maybe some other colors too!

Have you ever tried pink eye makeup before? If so, how did you like it?
I wanted to try pink eye makeup, but since I have pink undertones in my skin, I was worried that it could make me look sick. I knew there were ways to deepen the color, but I didn’t think I had the skills to make it work.

What were your initial thoughts about wearing pink eye makeup?
I’d worn red eye makeup before and loved it, so I was excited to see how this would look on me. I always thought it was very sweet and angelic when done right.

After your eye makeup was applied and you looked in the mirror, what were your thoughts?
This is a fun color, and eyeliner is the way to go if you have warm undertones and want a dimensional look.

Did you keep your makeup on for the rest of the day? If so, were there any reactions from co-workers or friends to your look?
I went out for drinks with my friends after work, and everybody was jealous of my makeup.

Would you try pink eye makeup again?
I definitely want to try re-creating a pink eye myself, maybe with a glossy finish and matte red lip.

Alexandra Mondalek, Fashion Features Writer

Have you ever tried pink eye makeup before? If so, how did you like it?
I don’t usually wear pink eye makeup. I tend to stick to more neutral hues like browns and a fair amount of eyeliner to make my green eyes stand out. I had a subdued look, so I’m not sure if I would mimic that again. If I tried pink eye makeup again, it’d likely be a bit bolder.

What were your initial thoughts about wearing pink eye makeup?
I was game to try it. I’m all about experimenting with makeup.

After your eye makeup was applied and you looked in the mirror, what were your thoughts?
It felt very light, but I can’t say the makeup felt sultry at all. It would probably be a Valentine’s Day-date look for me.

Did you keep your makeup on for the rest of the day after shooting? If so, were there any reactions from co-workers or friends to your look?
I kept the makeup on after the shoot, and the only person who really commented on it was a guy friend who, after an initial grimace he tried to hide, said he thought it looked more yellow than pink.

Would you try pink eye makeup again?
I would try pink eye makeup again, yes! Perhaps something brighter or neon or glittery! Hopefully I won’t have to wait until next Valentine’s Day.

Jacqueline Laurean Yates, Beauty Editor

Have you ever tried pink eye makeup before? If so, how did you like it?
I’ve actually experimented with lots of different colors here and there, but I always end up slipping back into my comfort zone of a natural color or just a few coats of mascara and eyeliner. I can’t recall trying anything as pink as I did here.

What were your initial thoughts about wearing pink eye makeup?
I was super-excited to see how it would turn out. I’m all about glitter anything!

After your eye makeup was applied and you looked in the mirror, what were your thoughts?
You glow, girl! Ha!

Did you keep your makeup on for the rest of the day after shooting? If so, were there any reactions from co-workers or friends to your look?
Once I walked over to my desk, everyone surrounding seemed to be in awe of my glitter-filled lids. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I love it!

Would you try pink eye makeup again?
Without a doubt!
