Shashi Kant Sharma takes oath as new Comptroller and Auditor General

Shashi Kant Sharma on Thursday took oath as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India succeeding Vinod Rai, who demitted the office on Wednesday after an eventful five-and-a-half years. President Pranab Mukherjee administered the oath of office to Sharma at a function held at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan. Sharma, a 1976-batch Bihar cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was the country's defence secretary prior to taking over as CAG. He will serve the office till September 24, 2017. Like Rai, Sharma too had served as secretary in the department of financial services.
