Paramilitary troopers rescue saints trapped in Uttarakhand

Paramilitary troopers rescued saints stranded for weeks from flood hit Uttarakhand on Wednesday. Flash floods and landslides unleashed by early monsoon rains have killed at least 1000 people in the state and left tens of thousands missing, as death toll is expected to rise significantly. Mishri Chand, a rescued saint said that they had survived for almost two weeks by sustaining on the food and water packages dropped by the Armed forces. Thousands of military servicemen are involved in rescue operations, with air force helicopters plucking survivors, many of them Hindu pilgrims and tourists, from the foothills of the Himalayas.
