Congress slams Modi on Vanzara letter controversy

Reacting to the confessions made by Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer DG Vanzara, charged and incarcerated in three fake encounter cases, Uttar Pradesh Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Wednesday demanded Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's resignation. Vanzara, who is a key accused in alleged fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and some similar cases, resigned on Tuesday blaming Modi and his aide Amit Shah for it. In his 10-page resignation letter to the Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department, the suspended IPS officer stated that he was resigning from the service and renounced all the post-retirement benefits. Vanzara put the entire blame on Modi and Shah, saying the two did not protect Gujarat's policemen.
