Recall Roundup: Nissan Braking System Issue Headlines Latest List of Recalls

This past week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued numerous recalls for a variety of automakers, the largest of which pertains to Infiniti and Nissan crossover SUVs that require anti-lock braking system software updates. The full list of recalls follows, listed in alphabetical order by make and model.

2013-2014 Audi A8/S8

Audi is recalling 1,120 units of the 2013-2014 A8 and S8 models, built from March 12, 2013, to July 15, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the sunroof glass panel may shatter without warning, distracting the driver, injuring vehicle occupants, and increasing the risk of a crash. Starting on October 21, 2013, Audi dealers began replacing sunroof panels at no charge to vehicle owners. Owners with questions can contact Audi at 1-800-822-2834, referencing recall number 60B6/IL. The NHTSA recall campaign ID number is 13V448.

2013-2014 Audi S6 and S7

Audi is also recalling 3,594 units of the 2013-2014 Audi S6 and S7 models. Due to an issue with manufacturing tolerances, the engine's fuel line may leak fuel, increasing the possibility of a fire. To resolve the problem, Audi dealers will install a new fuel line at no cost to the owner, starting at the end of October. Owners with questions can contact Audi at 1-800-822-2834, referencing recall number 20U6/L8. The NHTSA recall campaign ID number is 13V450.

2012-2013 Ford C-Max and Focus Electric

Ford is recalling approximately 23,000 units of the 2012-2013 C-Max and Focus Electric models. These vehicles, equipped with the automaker's Intelligent Access keyless passive entry and push-button starting system, do not emit a warning chime when the powertrain is operational and the driver's door is opened as they are supposed to.

This warning chime is important because these vehicles do not make sound when idling. As a result, the driver may exit and leave the vehicle while it is still "running." In addition to making the vehicle susceptible to theft, another person could enter the vehicle, place it into gear, and the vehicle could move without warning.

To resolve the problem, dealers will update the door chime software at no cost to the owner, starting at the end of October. Owners with questions can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 13C07. The NHTSA recall campaign ID number is 13V475.

2013-2014 Infiniti QX60, JX35 and Nissan Pathfinder

Nissan is recalling 151,695 units of the 2013 Infiniti JX35, 2014 Infiniti QX60, and the 2013-2014 Nissan Pathfinder. The affected Pathfinder models were built from April 18, 2012, through September 20, 2013; the affected JX35 models were built from September 15, 2011, through January 16, 2013; and the affected QX60 models were built from January 17, 2013, through September 20, 2013.

In these models, when the driver lightly applies the brakes on a rough road surface, the anti-lock braking system's (ABS) software may cause increased stopping distances, which increases the possibility of a crash. To resolve the problem, dealers will reprogram the ABS software.

As this article is written, the automaker has not established a timetable for the repair. Owners with questions can contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261, referencing NHTSA recall campaign ID number 13V445.

2008-2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

Mitsubishi is recalling 10,474 units of the 2008-2013 Lancer Evolution built from December 12, 2007, to March 5, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the clutch master cylinder may fail, reducing the ability to shift the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

To resolve the problem, dealers will replace the clutch master cylinder at no cost to the vehicle owner, beginning on November 11, 2013. Owners with questions can contact Mitsubishi at 1-888-648-7820, referencing recall campaign number SR-13-009. The NHTSA recall campaign ID number is 13V446.
