Honda Adds Special Edition to 2016 CR-V Lineup this Fall

Honda this week unveiled a Special Edition 2016 Honda CR-V that is on its way to dealer showrooms this fall. The new CR-V SE slots between the LX and EX trim levels with special touches, including larger 17-in. alloy wheels with a two-tone finish, darkened privacy glass all around, and a security system. The SE’s starting MSRP is $25,275, including an $880 destination charge.

The CR-V, which remains the best-selling SUV in the United States and is on track to set another annual sales record, had a major refresh for 2015 that included adding a new powertrain along with exterior and interior styling changes. Honda officials say that 3.5 million CR-Vs have been sold since the first CR-V was introduced in 1997.

The current CR-V is available in 12 trim levels, with either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD). All 2016 CR-Vs, including the new SE trim level and other variants, are powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 185 horsepower and 181 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is partnered with Honda’s continuously variable transmission (CVT). The FWD version averages 29 mpg in combined city/highway driving while the AWD SE averages 27 mpg, based on EPA estimates.

In September, CR-V sales outpaced the industry, surging 26% (+21% when selling-day adjusted) to 29,925 units vs. 23,722 unit sales in the same month last year. Year-to-date totals were up 7.7%, to 259,499 units in 2015 vs. 241,015 units a year ago, according to sales data collected by J.D. Power and auto forecasting partner LMC Automotive.
