Google’s Custom Self-Driving Car Takes Its First Drives

It looks like a normal day on the streets around Sunnyvale, Calif., but this photo may someday qualify as a big moment in automotive history.

That puppy-like vehicle above is Google’s custom-built self-driving car prototype, taking its first trips on public roads. The tech giant had promised it would begin testing this summer as part of its plan to get fully autonomous vehicles in consumers’ hands by 2020.
