Cadillac Reveals The 2017 XT5 SUV, An Overdue Replacement For The SRX

The stop-and-go nature of Cadillac’s revival has left it with some hot new models — the CTS-V and ATS-V as prime examples — and some holes in the lineup. While the Cadillac Escalade dominates the luxury full-size SUV market, and the aging SRX remains a big seller for the brand, other makes have flooded the luxury crossover space with profitable results.

Here’s the first full images of Cadillac’s impending answer — the 2017 Cadillac XT5, the new alphanumeric naming style for all future Caddy people haulers. To be built in Spring Hill, Tenn., starting next year, Cadillac didn’t release any mechanical details, only promising appropriate levels of luxury, performance and tech.

The new Caddy hews closely to the style guidelines laid down by the upcoming CT6 sedan, all part of the plan that sees Cadillac spending $12 billion to launch at least 8 new models by 2020. Looking slightly larger than the SRX, the XT5 leaves ample room for a larger seven-passenger luxury soft-roader above it in Cadillac’s future lineup, and one or two more below it.

Cadillac will reveal the full spec sheet for the XT5 in Dubai in November, with sales starting later next year.
