Watch the Chrysler 200 come together from the inside out

To show off the $1 billion upgrade of the Sterling Heights, Mich., plant where Chrysler will build the new version of its 200 sedan, the company shot this video of riding along through the miles of assembly lines. You don't have to be a manufacturing engineer to appreciate just how complicated and technologically advanced modern carbuilding has become. (If you are an engineer, you'll notice the switch from liquid to powdered primer, the 3D scanning for assembly flaws and the laser-brazer welding system.)

When Chrysler filed for bankruptcy in 2009, it listed Sterling Heighs as one of the factories it would close, a decision it had neglected to tell workers about before it filed the paperwork. From the buzz around the 200 at the show, they should have no such worries for a few years to come.
