Watch a 412-foot jump in a snowmobile from the driver’s seat

You can keep your over-marketed Times Square ball drop; the best of the new New Year's Eve traditions now involve Red Bull staging massive daredevil jumps. This year, it was snowmobiler Levi LaVallee hitting a new record with a 412-foot leap. Here's what he saw.

LaVallee was set to make his attempt in 2010, but a crash during practice halted his festivities. For this year's return engagement in San Diego, Red Bull paired LaVallee with motocrosser Robbie Maddison, who set an unofficial record of his own in practice with a 378-foot jump. LaVallee's launch surpassed his own previous record by 51 feet, and answered the question "How can you make a GoPro camera recreate a Spirograph?"
