Shelby, Cooper and the King Cobra: Flickr photo of the day

This rare bit of history lies at the intersection of two racing greats — John Cooper and Carroll Shelby. Realizing he was getting beat by Cooper's mid-engined cars in the early '60s, Shelby bought two Cooper Monaco chassis, put tuned Ford V-8s and new bodywork on them and created the Shelby Cooper King Cobra. Fast as hell, the King Cobra could barely handle the power its rear wheels were tasked to deliver, and by the end of the 1964 season Shelby realized he'd need something even faster. This shot of a well-cared for King Cobra comes from Pat Durkin and our Flickr group; if you have a shot to share, add it to the Motoramic group on Flickr, or send us a message via Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
