31 Most Mechanically Dependable Cars And Trucks

We dug deep into J.D. Power’s 2016 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study of three-year-old vehicles to determine which ones, in fact, will mechanically stand the test of time better than others. We uncovered 33 models across all vehicle classes that earned a perfect five out of five “Power circles” for powertrain dependability.

In quite a few cases we found cars that were named “winners” in their respective categories, yet garnered less-than-perfect scores for powertain dependability, making up for the deficiency with higher scores for feature/accessory and body/interior factors. And in other cases, there were models that registered perfect powertrain scores, but were given lower overall dependability ratings that were dragged down by fewer Power circles for the other two areas of concern.

For those keeping score, only four vehicles in the 2016 study received perfect scores in all three separate dependability categories, the Buick Verano compact sedan, Chevrolet Camaro sports coupe, and the GMC Yukon and Nissan Murano SUVs.
