PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A missing 43-year-old woman from Newberg was found dead in the area of Chehalem Creek on April 3, the Newberg-Dundee Police Department said.

The Newberg-Dundee Police Department opened a missing person investigation for the victim, Carolyn Duncan, after people close to her said it was unusual for her to go missing. Officers initially searched her residence and the surrounding neighborhood, but were unable to find her.

NDPD called in the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue team to help with a broader search of the area. While searching the creek behind her home, south of 5th Street in Newberg, authorities found Duncan’s body.

“Sadly, the search operation located Ms. Duncan deceased in the creek area behind the property she was residing at,” NDPD said. “An exact cause of death has not been determined and is still under investigation.”

Police say Duncan may have used the creek area as a hiking trail prior to her death. While a cause of death has not been determined, police say the investigation hasn’t revealed any known threats to the general public at this time.
