PORT CLINTON — The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) announced the opening of registration for the 2022 Camp Perry National Trophy Rifle and Pistol Matches. Those interested may start signing up now.

The National Matches will officially begin on July 12 with the First Shot Ceremony. An anticipated tradition, the First Shot invites guests to gather on the grounds of Camp Perry to ceremoniously ring in the summer season — an enthusiastic entrance to the competitive, educational and sales events that comprise the famous National Matches.

All ages and experience levels are welcome to participate in and observe the unique opportunities on the National Matches calendar. All events are open to the public.

Competitive/Educational Events

The 2022 National Matches begins with the Pistol phase on July 11, featuring matches like the As-Issued 1911, Military and Police, GLOCK matches and the Pistol Small Arms Firing School. Other recent events, like the Pistol 900 Aggregates for Center Fire, .45 and .22 and the Oliver Hazard Perry Pop-Up Pistol competitions, will return in 2022 after successful inaugural runs at last year’s National Matches. Also, a new Service Revolver Excellence-In-Competition (EIC) event will provide even more competitive opportunities for pistol competitors on the range.

Following Pistol, CMP’s Smallbore program offers a lineup of three-position, prone and team matches. A Smallbore Small Arms Firing School, led by members of the Army Marksmanship Unit, will also be conducted on Camp Perry’s Petrarca Range for those wishing to receive individualized, hands-on training on the firing line. The Smallbore Small Arms Firing School is just one of many educational courses presented throughout the matches.

The remainder of the summer schedule is packed with a variety of modern and vintage Rifle favorites such as the Rimfire Sporter, President’s Rifle, National Trophy Individual, Garand and Springfield matches.

A series of 4-Man Team, 800 Aggregate and EIC service rifle events will also be fired on CMP’s own highpower electronic targets, which display accuracy and efficiency on the firing line. The National Matches Rifle events will conclude in August with the Long Range phase, fired on Camp Perry’s celebrated Viale Range.

Sales

Outside of competition, CMP Industry Day highlights current market leaders through vendor stations located around Camp Perry. The July 11 event, set in front of the CMP Welcome Center, displays the latest technology in the marksmanship world through exciting visuals for guests to interact with and enjoy. Likewise, Commercial Row features a lineup of retailers and will remain accessible throughout the Matches, offering an assortment of shopping selections, and CMP’s North Store at Camp Perry is open for equipment and memorabilia needs.

Housing

Housing for the National Matches on Camp Perry’s grounds opens March 8. Accommodations offered include four-person huts, cottages, barracks, RV spaces and camp sites. Visit cplcc.com/national-matches for Camp Perry Lodging information. If base housing is full, numerous hotels are available in the surrounding Port Clinton, Fremont and Sandusky areas.
