In the past few years we have seen a trend where more and more designer labels have looked to break into the golfing world with apparel. Brands like Ralph Lauren, Original Penguin, TravisMathew, G/FORE and plenty more make the best golf tops, best golf pants and pretty much every other piece of clothing.
These products often look great and give your game the confidence it deserves thanks to the premium, high-quality feel and aesthetics of the garments. But which models should you go for? Well we have taken a look at some of our favorites pieces of designer golf clothing below so hopefully you find something you like. Jackets
G/FORE Camo Performer Jacket

G/FORE are known for making products that really stand out and this Camo Performer jacket is a case in point. That being said we do think it does have some restraint given the camo design is not an all over print.
The super soft, luxurious material is lightweight, but provides good warmth in chilly conditions and is brilliant at keeping out the wind. The jacket is water resistant and features ‘AquaGuard’ waterproof zippers, but it’s not designed to keep out the heavy stuff. It has a wonderful feel and texture on the zippers. The rubberized G/FORE logo on the neck is stylish but understated. These may sound like minor details, but for us these things are what G/FORE is all about and they matter, especially when you’re paying for a premium priced product.

Original Penguin Heritage Water Repellent Track Jacket

This is another step forward as golf moves with the times. Original Penguin has constructed this Heritage jacket made with 30 per cent recycled polyester which come from plastic bottles. It has a full-zip closure which makes it easy for layering as this is not a jacket to be worn on its own if the heavens open.
Depending how much layering you are thinking of, this is quite roomy so you might want to consider dropping your usual size though the ribbed cuffs mean that it won’t get in the way when you’re swinging and, likewise, the collar will stay in place. This is also available in white which is quite striking and the pockets are roomy. Overall this is perfect as an accompaniment to your favorite polo shirt.
G/FORE The Shelby Jacket
An extremely well thought out stylish jacket, this is the ultimate ‘non golf, golf garment’, which is sure to draw a lot of admiring looks from your playing partners. Firstly, it’s lightweight and stretchy, and flattering without being restrictive. It also offered plenty of warmth, without ever getting too hot.
Additionally it’s extremely versatile. It can cost over £200, but you’ll find yourself wearing this jacket a lot off the course – so the perfect choice in all seasons on the course, and a go-to garment for everyday life.

TravisMathew Cloud Hoodie

The clue is in the name here, Cloud. TravisMathew looked to create the softest hoodie possible, as soft as a cloud, and did so thanks to a combination of cotton, spandex, and a material called modal which is a bio-based fabric that is made from spinning beech tree cellulose. As a result it is incredibly soft and we love the fact it can be used anywhere because of the neutral design. The five different colors offer something a little unique as well.
J Lindeberg Ry Mid Layer
Sizes: S-2XL | Colors: 3
J Lindeberg apparel can occasionally stand out because of outlandish designs but this Ry mid-layer is very restrained. It looks great in several colors whilst it also blends style and performance. The stretchy fabric is great for playing golf in and it is super soft to the touch.
We should say that it won't protect you that much from the cold, wind or rain, other models on this list will do that. But if you want a mid-layer that looks great and feels comfortable, then this is definitely a model to consider, especially if the weather is too cold for just a polo, and too hot for a proper sweater or jacket.

G/FORE Quarter Zip V Neck Sweater

G/FORE does athletic and trendy very well – but the brand also knows how to do smart. The V Neck sweater is just that, and whilst it’s not as versatile as many of the other garments in the range, it does what it sets out to do – that is make you look sharp and fashionable. What we really like about it is the elevated neckline, which just gives it a point of difference – plus you have those stripes on the wrist. Made with ultra soft, plaited merino wool, this sweater feels wonderfully comfortable and a worthy inclusion on this list.

Peter Millar Weld Hybrid Half-Zip

If you’re going to play all-year round, your golf wardrobe is going to need to contain a few mid layers. The Peter Millar Weld Hybrid will keep you nice and warm, and given the brand considers every important detail, you can be sure that this premium garment will keep you comfortable and focused on your golf.
For us we think it is the perfect mid-layer because it gave us great protection in wind and some light rain - ideal for autumnal or winter golf. Additionally it had a multitude of nice little touches that really elevate the garment. The zips are a good quality and the presence of pockets is welcome here, despite the chest pocket perhaps being a bit redundant. That being said it still looks stylish.

G/FORE Dots Polo

G/FORE tend to produce outlandish gear with far-out designs but the brand has shown restraint with this all over dots polo. Available in three lovely colors, white, blue and pink, it is made from an ultra lightweight and breathable tech pique fabric designed for breathability and mobility. It is also elegant and washes easily in a cold wash.

Original Penguin Micro Octopus Print Polo

The Micro Octopus polo is new for this season and follows the current trend of some interesting and fun detailing to get away from the decades of block colors. The most noticeable aspect of this polo, other than the all-over print, is how light it is. It's a four-way stretch and it will never need to see an iron as it simply just falls back into position without any chance of creasing.
If you are playing on a hot day then this is absolutely ideal as it sits very easily and there's no chance of anything being too clingy. The collar also deserves a mention as it's soft without the chance of it folding out of position after a couple of washes. It's also worth noting that this washes very well. This is a slim fit polo but, by the nature of it, it feels very regular when on and you might even consider going down a size from your normal option.

G/FORE make a lot products that really stand out but this polo has an understated design which we love. Available in four nice colors, it is made from silky tech jersey fabric designed to offer maximum breathability on those hot days, as well as enhanced mobility. It is also lightweight, elegant and washes easily in a cold wash.
TravisMathew Heater Polo

We love this polo from TravisMathew. Made from a Prestige technical fabric designed to perform in extreme conditions, not only does it work well on the golf course but we think it is a polo you can wear anywhere. As such we also featured it in our guides on the best men's golf shirts too.
Original Penguin Golf Earl Polo Shirt

Original Penguin do a great line in polo shirts, part 'golfy' and part very much more leisure wear. This Earl offering probably sits in the latter category. With five nice colors to choose from and the really noticeable thing about this is that it's really cool, both in appearance but also in its performance.
It feels lightweight and breathable, ideal for hot weather. This is done through its construction from a moisture-wicking fabric and, to repeat the point, it will keep you fresh and dry throughout the round. Additionally the white tip detailing on the collar and cuffs gives the shirt a real lift and it washes great and, if anything, is even better after a few rounds as the shirt softens a bit.

Polo Golf Ralph Lauren Classic Polo Shirt

Keep things simple but stylish with this classic polo from Ralph Lauren. It has a cotton rich construction with a little extra stretch to help you during the swing and it is no understatement to say the design works with pretty much any outfit.
Pants/Shorts
Bonobos Performance Link Pants

A brand you would've seen worn by Justin Rose, Bonobos often makes shirts, in particular, that stand out from the crowd but this is not the case with the Performance Link Pants. Available in eight subtle colors, as well as a Cherry Malt Heather finish that will draw some looks, the pants are one of our favorites this year. Why?
Well, the fabric feels lovely on the skin, it is very soft and comfortable, but also enables you to move well throughout your golf swing. This fabric also provides UV resistance, making these a great trouser to wear if you're playing in hot conditions but also has moisture-wicking and quick drying properties if you do get caught in an unexpected shower. Bonobos has also got the little details right in this offering. From the logo slide snap closure to the silicone shirt gripper on the inside of the waistband, which will keep your shirt nicely tucked in when you're reaching high up in your follow-through, these trousers come with excellent functionality that encourages you to play good golf. Plus, the geo print pocket interior really adds a premium touch to this outstanding golf trouser.

They have a lightweight construction and the 4-way stretch material will keep you comfy all day.
Peter Millar EB66 Performance Five-Pocket Pants

Peter Millar makes premium golf attire and these EB66 trousers are no exception. Available in an astounding nine excellent colours, and plenty of different sizes, they are lauded for the unique combination of technical features, like two-way stretch, moisture-management and easy care, with a weekend-ready five-pocket design.
Whether you’re playing 18 holes or headed to lunch in town, these trousers are an excellent addition to any players golfing wardrobe. The versatility really is a plus point and he little details are great too, such as the camo stitching and very stretchy pockets.

TravisMathew Beck Shorts

We love these Beck shorts - they also made our list of the best golf shorts - because of the combination of performance, comfort, and because they are so versatile you can use them anywhere which adds to the value. The fabric has a high-degree of stretch and moisture-wicking capability which makes them comfortable to wear all day, something that is very easy to do.
G/FORE Maverick Hybrid Shorts

G/FORE usually specialise in garments that truly stand out from the crowd, but these shorts have a more understated appeal. G/FORE Circle G's Cap

G/FORE always make gear and apparel that stands out and this hat is no exception. New this season, the Circle G's cap comes in 10 appealing and different colors. It features an adjustable snapback closure so you can tailor the fit to any size of head, whilst there is also an athletic sweatband to keep the wearer cool too. Obviously the G/FORE logo sits pride of place on the cap and we should finally mention the stretch performance twill fabric which aids comfort.
Belts
J. Lindeberg Bridger Golf Belt
One of the coolest looking belts around thanks to the JL belt buckle, the Bridger is constructed with a 100% Italian leather strap for long-lasting durability. The buckle itself has been finished in brushed silver too for added appeal.
Cuater Pueblo Belt
Available in three colours, the Pueblo belt from Cuater offers a braided, subtly stylish look which is also comfortable thanks to the stretchiness of it.
J. Lindeberg Slater Belt
A classic belt with the famous JL design on the buckle, the Slater brushed leather belt from J.Lindeberg is a wardrobe staple. It has a premium look and with several colours on offer, it will pair nicely with lots of different coloured pants and shorts. The feel of the leather in particular is top notch and one of the best on the market.
How we test golf apparel
We test golf apparel in the same way we test all golf equipment, by using products properly. In relation to designer clothing this means putting them to the test out on the golf course to see if the products actually work and if they achieve what they are designed to do. We would also wear the products off the golf course as well because versatility to use a garment anywhere is a great way to get value for money. The final point we wanted to mention here is no manufacturer can pay for a good review because our thorough testing team tells it how it is.
How to choose your golf apparel
There are several factors to consider when it comes to buying a golf apparel and here we have listed them.
Type - What we mean here is what type of golf apparel are you after? Clothing is a vague term so have a think about your golfing wardrobe and see where your gaps are. That way you can inform your buying intent more. Obviously it is worth noting the time of year because in the selections above we not only have included jackets and hoodies for colder weather, but also polo shirts and shorts for the summer months.
Material - Linking with the above point, knowing what you are after will help you decide what material to go for. The fleece models above will keep the cold at bay whilst ones with more spandex in them will help you move easier and won't restrict the golf swing in any way. Additionally we have found the models with cotton in them are often the best for wearing out and about as well, and they are very easy to wash.
Movement - One of the big things around golf clothing is freedom of movement and whether they can restrict or negatively impact the swing. From jackets to pants the apparel needs to move properly and not hinder your swing. As such, we would recommend trying on models and taking swings in them to see if you still offer the same range of movement.
Looks - This is an important factor to consider. Do you want to stand out or just have a more understated look? We think there is something for everyone above.
Versatility - Do you want to be able to use the clothing anywhere from the golf course to the pub to at home? This is an important factor if you want to get more for your money and this is where the designer brands really shine as well.
Budget - Finally be aware of your budget so you can find apparel that fits into it nicely. Importantly there are models above which come with premium, and value price points so there is something for everyone.
