Viola Davis Ate McDonald’s French Fries Immediately After Winning Historic Emmy
Viola Davis, fresh off her Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, the first for an African-American woman, was a guest on Ellen and talked about the whirlwind surrounding her victory.
Before the ceremony, Davis was able to derive comfort from two things. One was her 5-year-old daughter, Genesis. The other? A little liquid courage. When Ellen asked the How to Get Away With Murder star if she was aware of the crowd’s enthusiastic response to her powerful speech, Davis admitted she was more focused on getting to the McDonald’s fries that were directly offstage. She admittedly ate the fries “as if I hadn’t eaten in five years.”
Davis got some free booze from a certain television mogul you might have heard of — Oprah Winfrey. Oprah gifted Viola with bottles of Jay Z’s champagne, which runs about $450 a bottle. Not a bad way to wash down those victory fries.
