'The X-Files' Reboot: Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny Tweet From the Set

UPDATE: The official X-Files Twitter feed has given us our first look at David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back in action (if you can call sitting in a car action) as Mulder and Scully on The X-Files set. Are they bound for a meeting at Skinner’s office? Investigating another X-File? Or just going on a Taco Bell run? All will be revealed — we hope — in January.

Thanks to Gillian Anderson’s Twitter feed, the truth is now out there: Production on The X-Files reboot has officially begun. The once and future Dana Scully confirmed the news via a Day 1 picture she snapped on the set, which shows Scully’s director’s chair sitting alongside the seat occupied by her on-screen partner, David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder. “And so it begins…” Anderson writes, with just the right amount of cryptic enthusiasm.

Duchovny later followed up with his own Tweet, which included a snapshot of his script accompanied by the mysterious statement: “Look closely even in the dark you see.” That sounds like it should be a bumper sticker on Mulder’s car.

While the stars’ are so far maintaining the secrecy that’s surrounding the series, there are a few truths we do know about this new incarnation of the The X-Files. For one thing, it’s already been confirmed that Mulder and Scully’s long-suffering FBI boss Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) will return, along with the shadow enshrouded Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis). The reboot will also consist of six episodes that will launch in January. “It was very hard to find a window for the three of us — [creator Chris Carter, co-star Gillian Anderson,] and I — to get together to do any episodes,” Duchovny explained to Yahoo TV in this video. “So six was kind of a two-and-a-half/three-month commitment, and we’re all able to do that. If people like those six, I imagine we could come back and try to find another window for six, or eight, or whatever again.” Based on the advanced enthusiasm surrounding this return, you’d better start finding that window now, Agent Mulder.

The X-Files premieres in January on Fox.
