'Survivor: Second Chances' Will Give Fans the Power to Bring Back Players

Kelly Wiglesworth, Terry Deitz, and Stephen Fishbach

Great Survivor players of the past are getting a second chance to outwit, outplay, and outlast — but only if fans want them to.

For the first time ever, Survivor fans will get to cast the show. Season 31 is all about second chances, so 32 players from previous seasons — none of whom won — will vie to earn one of 20 spots in the show this fall.

“The idea of a ‘second chance’ season started brewing during our first season, the moment Kelly Wiglesworth lost to Richard Hatch, in the summer of 2000,” said host and executive producer Jeff Probst. “Since their respective seasons ended, these players have been begging for another shot, and this is a fun way to allow our loyal fans to be involved in the creative process.”

Starting tonight through Wednesday, May 20, fans can vote for their favorites at cbs.com/survivorsecondchance. The results will be revealed during the May 20 finale of Survivor: Worlds Apart.

Among the 32 eligible castaways is Wiglesworth herself, who came in second on the Borneo season. She was a major physical player, winning four challenges in a row to make it to the finals. She is tied with Jenna Morasca and Kim Spradin for most individual immunity challenge wins by a woman — but the other two won their seasons.

Another challenge machine in the mix is Panama’s Terry Deitz, who is tied for the most individual immunity challenge wins by a man (with Colby Donaldson, Tom Westman, and Ozzy Lusth).

There are also highly strategic players looking to apply their minds to the game again, including Stephen Fishbach of Tocantins and Spencer Bledsoe of Cagayan.

Five players from the current season, Worlds Apart, are in the lineup: Joe Anglim, Max Dawson, Shirin Oskooi, Carolyn Rivera, and Mike Holloway. The latter two are still competing in the game, so should one of them be named Sole Survivor, they would become ineligible to be on the cast for next season.
