Stephen Colbert Interviews Eminem in the Best Public-Access Show Ever

Incoming Late Show host Stephen Colbert has been hard at work during his summer vacation: First, he penned a God-awful theme song for the show, and now he’s popped up as the host of a bizarre public-access show in tiny Monroe, Michigan (population: 20,405).

In the leisurely paced 41-minute video above — shot in stunning standard-definition — Colbert takes us through the history of picturesque Monroe and updates us on some breaking news, including a Yelp flame war between a local restaurant and an O’Doul’s-loving patron. (Yes, it’s real.) Oh, and he welcomes hip-hop legend and Michigan native Eminem for an awkward, Between Two Ferns-esque interview where he quizzes him on Bob Seger lyrics and wonders why he hides his “cute face” behind a hoodie.

We have no idea why this happened, or how Colbert even ended up in Monroe, Michigan… but there’s something undeniably mesmerizing about the video’s meandering, small-town vibe. If this is a preview of what we can expect from Colbert’s Late Show, we’re not complaining. Well, unless they overcharge us for an O’Doul’s.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert premieres Tuesday, Sept. 8 on CBS.
