'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: We're the Tax Masters!

Millions of Americans filed their taxes this week, either getting a welcome surprise in the form of a return or a big financial headache. April 15, Tax Day, is as much a part of life in this country as the Fourth of July or Thanksgiving, which you can tell by the unending commercials you see for tax preparation services on TV.

In 2010, Saturday Night Live spoofed one of the more tragic ads, from the Tax Masters. The spot starred Patrick R. Cox (Jason Sudeikis), a deadly-dull spokesman without a lick of charisma. In the parody, SNL explains why Patrick is stuck in a weird half-profile position — he’s got a tiny twin brother on the side of his head. Meet Daniel!

Host Jane Lynch plays the commercial’s director, who just wants to get this travesty over with, and gamely goes along when Patrick suggests they feature the other side of his head — with Daniel — in the ad. The crewmen (Bobby Moynihan, Kenan Thompson, and Taram Killam) look horrified. We dare you not to shiver when Daniel speaks!

Maybe the original commercial wasn’t so bad.

Saturday Night Live returns with new episodes on May 2 with host Scarlett Johansson.
