'Orphan Black' Soundtrack: Hear 2 New Songs

If you thought Tatiana Maslany faced a challenge in bringing countless different characters to life every week on Orphan Black, keep in mind that the composer and music supervisor must also painstakingly select music specific to each clone. But these essential yet under-the-radar contributions will finally get their due next week when Orphan Black’s official soundtrack albums finally drop.

Split into two volumes, one focuses on the show’s clever use of pop music to track each clone’s journey, while the other collects composer/arranger/song-writer Trevor Yuile’s assorted scores. But why wait for the official release date when you can hear two of these scary-glorious tracks right here and now? Click here to listen.

Orphan Black – Original Television Score will include the very music that helped us understand the motivations and longings of each clone. Take this preview of “Cosima’s Treatment,” for example: As befits a proper, goodhearted geek, this song sounds both science-y and optimistic despite the fact that it underscores a scene in which she’s facing death from debilitating illness. But that’s Orphan Black for you: Good times feel sinister while bad times bring hope.

The second soundtrack volume, Orphan Black – Original Television Soundtrack, will be released the same day and feature songs from Foxygen, Humans, Matthew Dear, and, of course, Meredith Brooks, whose “Bitch” was used in that instant-classic scene of suburban Alison rocking out in her minivan. But fans should be most interested in Two Fingers’s iconic Orphan Black theme song. Click here to listen.

Both volumes of the Orphan Black original soundtrack will be released May 19 and can be purchased on Amazon or, for a digital copy, on iTunes.

Season 3 of Orphan Black is now airing Saturdays at 9 p.m. on BBC America.
